\nzoo or domestic fantasy
\nfantastical fantasy face to face in ignorance
\npure cruel innocents
\nsawing jaws bony frame violent game
\nlong indolent torpor
\nskin-deep sleep
\nand sudden awakening
\nas if called by a bugle
\na signal an alarm
\na cry a scent a rustle a breeze
\nan insect or snake
\npulse of prey or threat
\npulsing death oh indifferent death
\nsacrifice without idol
\nno altar no ritual<\/em>
\nsacrifice to ravenous life<\/em>
\nto the living gods of fertile devourings<\/em>
\nto the gods of older worlds<\/em>
\ntiger the vengeful god alligator the wrathful<\/em>
\nknowing neither vengeance nor anger
\noh such impeccable savagery save barbarity<\/em>
\nsave war peace dilemma<\/em>
\npowers identical to themselves<\/em>
\neven not the same<\/em>
\nliving outside their names<\/em>
\noutside the languages that name them<\/em>
\nthese names that roar and gape<\/em>
\nthese sharp-toothed names<\/em>
\nhot-throated maws<\/em>
\nclaws and craws<\/em>
\nscales and stripes<\/em>
\nall these animal words
\nthey have not learned
\nnor understood or swallowed nor devoured or digested
\nthem in their names not in them their names
\nnames which flutter outside flags torches ideas images
\nnothing to eat nothing to scratch nothing to bulge
\nbut growling snapping biting
\nforms of fierceness called by name
\nTiger Alligator

\nfollowing your hunger
\nfollowing what suits your ways
\nunconcerned with proper splendors
\nsumptuous coat scaly leather undreamt-of luxuries
\nmassive luxuriance radiating
\nfigures of an old mystery
\nof living profusion
\na mystery of origins in the prolific profusion of geneses
\nof genes of generations
\nof crossings of selections of mutations
\nof trials of errors of successes
\nin families species and varieties
\nthrough to rare specimens the great loners
\nlords of forests and rivers
\nborn just for this lordly dominion
\nTiger Alligator
\nsovereign by your allure alone
\nby your stretches by your leaps
\nby your sated sleep by your starts
\nby your fury your courage your glory
\nwhich our tongues
\ntry to form in roughened rhymes
\ngnashing scratching roaring
\nrumbling repetitions
\nhoarse tongued torsions
\ntongue behind words
\nin your mouth which roars and which weeps
\ngroans moans howls
\ncries from your tear-filled throat
\nyour throat tigrator your throat
\nbut no less mine no less
\ndeep in which these names you do not know make signs
\nwhich celebrate you which honor you
\nrituals prayers
\nrhythms of adoration
\nfrom throat to belly and into the lungs
\nheart liver nerves and tendons
\nspread the shiny splinters of your names
\nTiger Gator
\ntheir savage invocations
\nwhich make of you in me the gods
\nthe ancient the fearsome
\nintimate with the impossible<\/p>\n
